Point Break Sound Mix

Point Break Sound Mix:

How to export the final piece:

Firstly save the file and then click Edit, Export. There will then be a box appear where you enter the correct details to be exported correctly. For Youtube the file needs to be HD and compatible for Youtube 1080p. Then I uploaded my file to Youtube and could view it online.

What was the task?

Our task was to take a silent clip of Point Break and add the sound effects to the clip. To do this we found sounds from a website and downloaded them. We then looked at the clip and added the sounds to the clip where we thought they should go.

My Sequence of the 1st Minute:

Below is my sequence. It shows the different sounds I used to put behind the video clip. I have not overloaded the clip with sounds as I didn't want to go over the top.

How does the final piece sound?

I think that my final piece sounds good but if I did it again I could improve it. To improve it I could add some sounds behind others. This would then give the effect of things happening at once. This is my first attempt at adding sounds to a video clip. But overall I am happy with what I have done with the sounds. I am pleased with the Police Radio sounds and the part where there is an explosion as the sound happens when the explosion goes off.

Napoleon Dynamite Sequence

Napoleon Dynamite Sequence Project:

What was our aim?

We were set the task to re-create a clip from Napoleon Dynamite. We created a shot list with details including the shot type and extra details such as props. Then we watched the clip from Napoleon Dynamite and created a storyboard with illustrations and details of shot types.

The Original Footage:

Storyboarding:

I watched the clip through a few times and then paused the clip at points where the camera shots changed. For example, Napoleon started talking on the phone and then the shot changed to him turning around looking round some lockers. I then got my storyboarding sheet and wrote down the shot types and began to draw what I could see in the boxes on the sheet. I think that I got all the shots included in the storyboarding process but my drawing skills aren't the best so I could improve on my drawing.

Filming:

Who was in my group?
- Amy Brown
- Stephen Latchem
- Hannah Gautrey

When we wend out to film we took Hannah's documents with us. We choose to take Hannah's documents with us as her storyboard has some very good illustrations on. This made it easier to see who needed to be where in each shot.

Problems we faced whilst filming:

When we were out filming we faced a few problems. We were in the college corridor and we set up and were ready to film but then college students kept coming into our shots. To overcome this we waited for a gap in the people and filmed. When there was lots and lots of people walking we moved to a different location to film.

If we were to go out filming again we would prepare more. We would write down where we were going to film. This would save time and make the filming process easier. We would also decide who was going to do which role before we went out. For example, we will decide who will film, who will act ect.

Project Window:

Below is a screenshot of my project window. I have organised my files and have renamed them so I know what shots are which. This will save me from looking through them all. I have also added a brief description of each shot so I know what is going on in each shot.

My Project Window in Premier

The differences between the composition of the shots is that the original shot was near some lockers with a hatch. We were unable to find a hatch so we couldn't include it in our shot. Apart that that we are happy with how far away the camera is. The shot is a mid shot which is showing Napoleon on the phone near to some lockers.

We are happy with this shot as it is very similar to the original footage. It is a mid shot but if we were to re-shoot it we could zoom in slightly more. Also the light in the original is lighter than our shot. This is something we could fix in Premier using different presets.

This shot is good but there are a few things that we could change if we were to go out filming again. For example, we could find a door that opens the same way as the one in the original footage. It would make our footage look like the original. Apart from that we are happy with the shot and the way it came out.

This shot is of Pedro and Napoleon at the lockers. We are happy with this shot as it is similar to the original but we could improve it. We could improve it by zooming out slightly. Our shot is close up on Stephen whereas the original shows Napoleons legs. But apart from that we are happy with this shot.

Continuity Editing:

Continuity Editing Techniques:

180 Degree Rule - The 180 degree rule is used in film editing and is a guideline regarding the relationship between different characters and other objects within a scene. There is an imaginary line called the axis which connects the characters and keeps the camera on one side of the axis for every shot that is in the scene.

180 Degree Rule

Cross Cutting - Cross cutting is used in films to establish action in different locations. The camera will cut away from one action scene to another. This technique is often used to create suspense.

Matching on Action - This is where the editor cuts away from one shot and goes to another of one of the first shots. The shots may not have been shot at the same time but this technique gives the impression of continuous time when we watch the edited film back.

Eye line Shot - This is a technique used to show the audience what the character is seeing. The shot begins with the character looking at something off of the screen. There will then be a cut to the object that the character is looking at.

Example - A women is looking off screen to her left. The film then cuts to her looking at the TV on the wall.

Yesterday with Mobas and the creation event:

What did I do yesterday?

Yesterday I listened and took some notes whilst Mobas were giving a presentation on what they do and how they work. Then we got into teams and were given a task. The task was to come up with a fashion brand and come up with good ideas to help the brand with social media. My team created a vintage shop in Camden and was named The Vintage Emporium. I came up with ideas for a name, web design styles and app logos.

I learnt a lot about the company Mobas and about what they do and what they do for their clients. I was interested by the design side of Mobas and it could be what I want to go into after Long Road as I like web design and the social media.

What could we have done better?

When I was with my team we kept on talking over each other. This then meant that lots of ideas were going all over the place and we weren't getting anywhere. So, the only thing I think we could improve on would be our communication skills and take it in turn to give our ideas and opinions. But other than that I think we worked well.

What do Mobas do?

Mobas take a clients brand and ask the client what they want to achieve from their brand. For example they specialise in digital media which consists of website development, poster design, social network site development and observation and many other aspects of digital. Their aim is to achieve what the client want to do with their brand. The client may want to boost bookings for their website or have more of their customers use their social networks pages. Whatever it is Mobas will do whatever is required to boost the clients brand.

Making a Repeated Wallpaper:

Wallpaper created using Illustrator and Photoshop

Creating Symbols:

To create the symbols I used in my wallpaper I thought of some objects I could include in my wallpaper. I thought of some items I couldn't live without. I then began to create the items using simple shapes. The items are not detailed as they are symbols and are supposed to be recognised from the simple shapes and colours.

Putting the symbols into the symbol library:

I saved all of my symbols and then they were available to use for my wallpaper. I then closed my Illustrator file and opened another Illustrator file which was 300 x 300 pix. I renamed the file and selected the png24 preset. I made sure that Clip to artboard was selected before saving. Then I closed Illustrator and opened Photoshop. I opened the file that I had recently saved and did cmd A. I then selected 'edit'  and 'define pattern'. I then created a new web file which was 1280 x 1024. Afterthat I selected the fill tool and changed the foreground preset to pattern. I then dragged my pattern onto the canvas to get my final result.

What I like about my wallpaper:

1) I like how some objects are reflected and give a cool look to the wallpaper. I chose to do this so that the wallpaper looked different and so that objects wern't all facing the same way.
2) Recurring Pattern of the dogs paws and the Samsung phone creates a line effect which I like. This makes the items stand out and the viewer will see them first when they look at the image.
3) I like how shapes are all over the page and some have been resized to fit into small spaces. This makes the viewer look closely at the wallpaper as there Is small items near to the bigger items.

What could have been improved?

1) Including more symbols - this would have filled up my canvas on Illustrator and would have made a busier wallpaper. If I was to create another wallpaper I would probably create some more symbols to add to the final wallpaper.
2) Adding a background colour - My current background colour is white, but to make an improvement to my wallpaper I could add a colour to the background. I'm not sure what colour would look best but I would view different colours form the swatches.
3) Lose the grid - I have a Samsung phone symbol included in my wallpaper and it is currently defining a grid. It looks ok as it is but I could move the phone symbols around in Illustrator to loose the grid and make the wallpaper look like one mass of symbols.

Minimalist Film Poster:

In Illustrator I created some minimalist film posters. I had seen these before but I had never created one myself. This is the best piece of work i have created so far and I went on to create some other film posters such as Batman. To make this I used a photo of a real heart and then got the main shape of the heart. I then added colour and text to the poster to get my final result.
